Shrines in the U.S. to visit for Divine Mercy Sunday

The second Sunday in easter is known as Divine Mercy Sunday. This Feast of Divine Mercy, which had already been granted to the nation of Poland and celebrated within Vatican City by Pope John Paul II, was granted by the Pope to the Universal Church on the occasion of the canonization of Sr. Faustina on 30 April 2000. In a decree dated 23 May 2000, the Congregation for Divine Worship and the Discipline of the Sacraments stated that,

"throughout the world the Second Sunday of Easter will receive the name Divine Mercy Sunday, a perennial invitation to the Christian world to face, with confidence in divine benevolence, the difficulties and trials that mankind will experience in the years to come." EWTN

There is a Penary Indulgence available for those who participate in devotions to the Divine Mercy, as detailed below:

A plenary indulgence, granted under the usual conditions (sacramental confession, Eucharistic communion and prayer for the intentions of Supreme Pontiff) to the faithful who, on the Second Sunday of Easter or Divine Mercy Sunday, in any church or chapel, in a spirit that is completely detached from the affection for a sin, even a venial sin, take part in the prayers and devotions held in honour of Divine Mercy, or who, in the presence of the Blessed Sacrament exposed or reserved in the tabernacle, recite the Our Father and the Creed, adding a devout prayer to the merciful Lord Jesus (e.g. Merciful Jesus, I trust in you!"); Vatican Website

In the United States, there are many Shrines and parishes hosting events around Divine Mercy. We have selected 3 shrines with a special connection to this beautiful devotion.

Located in Stockbridge, MA, the Shrine is operated by the Marian Fathers and spans 350 acres. Pilgrims find several opportunities to grow spiritually, which include daily Mass, 3pm Divine Mercy Chaplet, adoration, and a plethora of chapels and devotionals are located indoors and outdoors. The Saint John Paul II National Shrine is pleased to be able to work cooperatively with the Congregation of the Sisters of Our Lady of Mercy to help foster and spread the Divine Mercy message that was entrusted to St. Faustina and that St. John Paul II was so instrumental in bringing to the world.
