Shrines and the Path to Sainthood

The start of the year has been an exciting one for those praying for the canonization cause of Adele Brice and Venerable Archbishop Fulton J. Sheen.

On January 30, the cause for the canonization of Adele Brice was officially opened, naming her a Servant of God. Adele Brice was the seer of Our Lady of Champion in 1859, the first and only approved Marian apparition in the United States.
On February 9th Bishop Louis Tylka of the Diocese of Peoria announced that the Holy See had informed him that the Cause for the Venerable Archbishop Fulton J. Sheen could proceed to Beatification.
“The next step in the process is the celebration of the Beatification, in which Fulton Sheen would be declared Blessed. In the Catholic Church, beatification is the first major step to sainthood, granting a deceased person the title "Blessed" and allowing limited public veneration (like in a region) after proving heroic virtue and one verified miracle. Canonization is the final step, declaring the person a saint, permitting worship across the entire Church, and requiring a second miracle after beatification, making their veneration universal.”
In the United States, there are several shrines dedicated to or with a special connection to persons in various stages of the canonization process. In this way, the shrines encourage pilgrims to learn from the life of that person so as to strengthen their own relationship with God.
As the cause for these two holy people moves forward, we ask them for their prayers.
