We invited Fr. Nicholas Blackwell to lead our 3rd Annual Lenten Retreat on March 17th via ZOOM. Fr. Blackwell is a Canonical advisor for the USCCB. For this retreat, he focused on the shrine's responsibility to foster good examples of piety.
"Piety is the reason Shrines Exist, explained Fr. Blackwell. "Canon 1230 states that 'the shrine is a place of pilgrimage for a special reason of piety.' The idea of piety is very problematic in the United States so we need to wrestle with it."
